Alex is yours.
Install it once. Then, next time something's rattling round your head, tell Alex and get a plan you can follow.
Using Gemini? Download the Claude version, then follow the Gemini steps below. It downloads as a .zip file: leave it zipped for Claude and ChatGPT.
So what is an AI skill?
A skill is a set of instructions your AI loads when a task calls for it. You add it once. After that it sits in your account and gets used whenever it fits what you ask.
A plain chat
- You type the whole lot in and hope for the best
- It hands back a long, tidy plan straight away, built on guesses
- It looks great, and you never open it again
- Next time, you start from scratch
With Alex
- You say what's on your mind, however it comes out
- It asks short questions, one at a time, until the goal is clear
- You get numbered steps, timeframes, what depends on what, and a date to check back
- Things change? Come back to the same chat and it updates the plan with you
Install it in your AI tool
You only do this once. Pick the tool you already use.
Prefer to tick off as you go? Open the step-by-step install guideFirst, switch on code execution. Skills need it, and without it you won't see the Skills menu. On a Free, Pro or Max plan, go to Settings → Capabilities and switch on "Code execution and file creation". On a Team or Enterprise plan, your organisation owner controls this.
-
Keep the file zipped
Leave the Alex .zip as it is in your Downloads folder.
-
Go to Customize → Skills
Click the + button, then "Create skill", then "Upload a skill". Choose the Alex .zip.
Open Claude ↗ -
Check it's switched on
Alex appears in your skills list. Make sure its toggle is on.
-
Start a new chat
Ask in plain words. Claude decides when Alex applies, so you don't need to switch it on each time. If it doesn't pick it up, name it: "Use the Alex skill to help me plan…"
If something goes wrong
- You can't see the Skills menu
- Code execution is probably switched off. Check Settings → Capabilities.
- The upload fails
- Use the original zip, not one you've unzipped, renamed or re-zipped. Some browsers unzip downloads automatically. If that's happened, download it again.
- You can't upload on a work account
- Your organisation owner may have turned uploads off. Ask them to check.
- Claude isn't using Alex
- Check the toggle is on, then name the skill in your request.
-
Upload Alex
Click + and choose "Upload from your computer". Upload the .zip exactly as it downloaded. Don't unzip it first.
-
Check it's installed
Alex should appear under Installed.
-
Use it in ChatGPT Work
Start a new conversation in Work, not a normal chat. Tell it what you need and it should pick up Alex on its own, or type @ and choose Alex from the list.
Skills are a newer ChatGPT feature, so your screen may look slightly different as OpenAI keeps changing it.
Gemini works differently. It doesn't take skill files, so you'll unzip Alex and paste it into a Gem. You still only do this once.
-
Unzip the download
Double-click the .zip on a Mac, or right-click and choose "Extract All" on Windows. Open the folder that appears.
-
Copy the skill text
Open SKILL.md in a plain text editor (TextEdit or Notepad). Select all the text and copy it.
-
Make a new Gem
On gemini.google.com, click "Explore Gems" in the sidebar, then + New Gem.
Open Gemini ↗ -
Set it up
Name it Alex. Paste everything you copied into the Instructions box. If the folder has other files in it, add them under "Add files".
-
Save and use it
Click Save. Alex now sits in your sidebar under Gems. Click it whenever you want a plan, and start typing.
Start with this
Paste this into a new chat and swap the brackets for your own words. Then answer Alex's questions as they come.
- Claude: just start a new chat. If Alex doesn't kick in, add "Use the Alex skill" to the start.
- ChatGPT: in Work, type @ and choose Alex first.
- Gemini: open the Alex Gem from your sidebar first.
Have these in mind
None of it needs to be tidy.
- One thing. The one that's been on your list for weeks. Start there, not with everything at once.
- Any real date or consequence. A launch, a client deadline, a holiday. If there isn't one, that's fine. Alex will suggest one next step instead of a full plan.
- What else is on your plate. A plan that ignores the school run and three client calls isn't a plan.
What you get
Numbered steps, a timeframe for each, the steps that depend on others, and a date to check back.

A few things you might not expect
- Sometimes Alex won't build a full plan. If your goal has no real date or consequence, it suggests one next step instead, and tells you when to come back.
- Come back to the same chat when things change, and Alex updates the plan with you.
- If one of your steps is something you'll do again and again, Alex may suggest Olive, a separate skill that helps you spot that task and take a clear next step.
- Alex suggests. You decide.

Who made Alex
We're Jacqueline Leake and Nina Mistry, the two halves of Meet Ada. Jacqueline is an AI specialist and trainer who spends her days inside clients' accounts, seeing what's sitting in their heads that should be written down. Nina builds the tech. She takes what Jacqueline pulls out of people's heads and turns it into tools that bloody work. Simple ones. The kind you'll actually come back to.
